Devlog 09

Hey yall! This is the last week of sprint 2 and honestly, we only have one thing to say, it was just HECTIC .

Sound

Our game got livelier with animal alert hud now you’ll really know when something’s up! Fence obstacles received a satisfying "hit" sound effect, adding impactful and entertaining collisions. Foggy levels became moodier with looping fog ambiance, enhancing the eerie and immersive atmosphere. Gnomes became extra expressive with humorous surprise reactions and dramatic death cries. Bounce mushrooms now sound as fun as they look, delivering juicy bounce satisfaction. Every footstep grass, wood, or mud now perfectly matches the environment, making exploration incredibly immersive. Water obstacles became splashy and fun, turning accidental dips into entertaining drama.

Art

This week, our artists tackled different aspects of the game. One artist brought several key elements to life, creating a vibrant tutorial/loading screen, polishing meshes from last week, and smoothing out seams in intersecting landscape meshes. They also crafted a detailed medical tent and designed and integrated both the checkpoint banner and warning sign meshes and materials. Additionally, this artist added a new About/Credits widget section into the main menu.

The other artist enhanced the game's ambiance significantly by implementing an immersive fog and mist VFX system. They created engaging visual effects for mushrooms, poisonous plant fog, and explosive inverted landmines. This artist also set up placeholders for various upcoming obstacle VFX and animated our player characters.

Programming

Our programmers had a productive week as well! One programmer fine-tuned gameplay mechanics by implementing intuitive controller vibrations for player feedback, ensuring camera rotations occurred at the right times, and eliminating a tricky infinite death loop bug. They also enhanced the overall navigation experience by re-wiring and fixing buttons and adding smooth screen transitions. Players can now effortlessly control menus and screens using the controller, and checkpoint navigation has become seamless.

The other programmer worked on fixes and the leaderboard. They fine-tuned and thoroughly tested the stretcher balance values and improved the bounce mechanics to make interactions feel just right. Additionally, Programmer Two developed and implemented a comprehensive leaderboard system, both logic and UI, allowing players to track and compete for top scores.
