Final Devlog

Welcome, distinguished guests, to our final devlog!

It was a long journey from the acts of war to salvation. We struggled hard balancing our lives, both as humble gnome nurses and as students at DAE.  But here we are, coming out of the crossfire, and we’re proud to say: we have a game at last!

Heres our awesome trailer made by our tech artist:

Final Alterations

Now, lets get into our last alterations that we made before we declared our game done deal. We've discovered problems after repeated testing such as gamepad support issues and collision issues, which we've (thankfully) fixed.

On to another thing that, even though it was a bit drastic, we decided that we had to make this change. Originally fire would speed you up, we got feedback from multiple testers that this is counter intuitive. Now it kills you, but to make up for this change, we've made entire sections that were previously fire, into a speed zone that: moves you out of control, speeds up music and shifts the environments colour.  Additionally we've made the hud timer bigger and balance meter less in your way so players can better see the road ahead!

We've also altered our mud.  Some testers said that there was little point to it, as it was an unavoidable obstacle, and the effect no longer did much compared to earlier iterations of the game. Along with making the mud tank our speed even more,  we also preserved the original slippery effect and placed them in smaller avoidable patches. The look of the mud has also been upgraded. Now it looks wet, shiny, moves, and there is no hard clipping between the mud mesh and ground.

Next thing: during testing we realized much of the level could be completed by one person. After our previous efforts to make the game as easy as possible (to aid those who weren't able to complete it), We had lost our way. And thus we've upgraded the level so that it depends more heavily on two players input!  And btw the hats go all rainbow-y when you hit an inverted mushroom bomb to further clarify that we go all woozy when hit :)

Speaking about losing our way. The players lost their way when playing our level too. Oh no! So we've added signs to point our nurses in the right direction! Lastly there were some finishing touches with the vfx of the game such as the poisonous mushrooms.

Conclusion

In the end, alot has changed for the better (we hope). Its been quite the journey and our backs hurt from carrying the stretcher , we've decided to retire and let you pick it up. So COME ON NOW, PICK UP THE STRETCHER OR PETA WILL BE ON YOUR ASS.
